Hello,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Mild swelling in lower limbs may occur post surgery due to immobility.
Asymmetrical swelling, Pain, joint involvement , fever , redness may have to be evaluated for other causes like deep venous thrombosis, arthritis.
Continue pain killers, put pillow under ankles in supine position for swelling.
Get consultation of your treating doctor and examined for required investigations.
You you can get back to me if you have further query.

I have ankle swelling in both ankles, both about the same. I do have pain in my left ankle only, very painful. It feels a little warm. Could this be Gout, it does run in my family. I don't think this is a blood clot because it's in both ankles.
Brief Answer:
Possibility of gout require evaluation and investigation
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Possibility of gout can not be ruled out as it may precipitate in stress or post operative periods.
The diagnosis require blood tests and clinical examination.
Take pain killers for releif.
It's good that the swelling is not likely to be deep vein thrombosis.
Get investigated and examined by your treating doctor.
Wishing you good health.
