default
Posted on Mon, 2 Mar 2015
Question: My fingers of the right hand have swollen red patches, perhaps cold temperature related or other. My circulation might play a role. I hear that a rheumatologist could be a reference. What do I have and what remedy will work?

Brief Answer:
Probably arthritis or contact dermatitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Possible causes of swollen red fingers patches could be contact dermatitis (skin contact with certain substances, or with cold). Treatment of this condition consists on identifying the cause and avoiding it.
Local corticoids ( pomades) could help improve symptoms.

Another possibility of your concerns could be arthritis. Its treatment consists mainly in NSAID drugs use ( e.g. Ibuprofen).

There is need to consult your primary care Doctor and discuss above mentioned possibilities.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Don't know if pertinent, but my left arm near the hand has had a soft quarter-size soft lump for many months. It grows or recedes from time to time.Is this related or is it a separate factor?

Brief Answer:
It is separated problem.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again.

This new concern you are discussing is probably a different problem than related to your fingers condition.

Hand lumps that come and go, are soft, XXXXXXX are most probably synovial cysts or muscles/ tendons covering layer filled with liquid ( serum).

They are benign lesions and if they don't cause moderate to severe pain or don't affect hand functions then there is no need to treat them.

Hope this helps. Wishing you good health.
