What Causes Swelling And Redness On Lower Eyelid?
Question: Hi. I have a 3 year old with slight swelling and redness on the lower aspect of the inner canthus. Has been there for about 2 months with no improvement. If anything looks slightly worse, but not dramatic in any way. Looks like a beginning of a stye but it never goes anywhere. Got any ideas?
Brief Answer:
Chalazion
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your health care concerns and questions.
I agree with you that the red area on your child's lower eye lid is a possible stye. If a stye stays for a long time then it transforms into a chalazion or a chronic abscess. If you have already tried using daily warm compresses and it has not help then I recommend that he be seen by an ophthalmologist. They can numb the eye and actually XXXXXXX the chalazion to allow it to heal properly.
In summary
1. Your child has a chalazion
2. Warm compresses every hour
3. refer to ophthalmologist for treatment
I hope this answers your question. Please contact HCM again with any of your health care concerns
