What Causes Swelling In Face, Feet And Abdomen After Administering Mifepristone?
Question: Quite recently I did an abortion and was administered mifepristone which was inserted inside the vagina. The result was negative and I was asked to insert another four (that means 8 mifepristone) in all and the bleeding was not much afterwards. nowi am experiencing kidney malfunctioning my face is swollen my feet are swollen, and under my belly is swollen during the day but when I woke up in the morning it is ok. but by nighttime it is swollen. there is also protein in my urine. what should I do
why am I experiencing swellings on my feet and face. there is no pain however in the kidney. just the swellings on my belly (well the lower part)

In my opinion the swelling of face and legs might not be due to mifepristone.This type of symptoms might be seen in anaemia also.

2)Since how many days you are on lasix?

4)Any blood investigations done?
5)Was the bleeding heavy at the time of abortion?

1. When the swelling started. I developed hypertension. So delix was administered
2. I wasn't urinating faster so Lasix was prescribed. I have been on it now for 8 days.
3. the pregnancy was 5 weeks old when aborted.
4. Blood investigation was done to investigate on the status of my heart, liver and kidney. the biopsy report came out that all is well. The kidney is fine except that I am having protein in my urine.
5. No the bleeding was not heavy. In fact with the first dose of mifepristone there was no bleeding. it was when the dose was repeated that I got some bleeding.

In my opinion lasix is prescribed to decrease the load on kidneys.
Usually swelling of legs might be seen after abortion in a few people due to
blood loss .
Swelling of legs and face might also be due to low protein level in the body.This might be due to loss of protein in urine.
So both anaemia with hypoproteinaemia might be the cause.
As you said the biopsy of kidney is done and it is normal renal pathologies like minimal change disease(MCD) ,glomerulonephritis(GN) is ruled out.
MCD presents with proteinuria and swelling of face and legs.GN presents with hypertension,blood in urine and mild proteinuria.
This might not be related to mifepristone given during the abortion.
And there is no chance for any heart problem as it is also investigated and found normal.
So I suggest you to get Hb and serum proteins to rule out anaemia and hypoproteinaemia.Also take the opinion of nephrologist regarding the loss of protein in urine inspite of being normal renal biopsy.

Howcan i get serum protein. I bought Feroglobin from a chemist which i am using.
