Posted on Thu, 7 Jan 2016
Question: The past couple of days my left ankle and the top of my foot is swollen in the evening. It swells occasionally since it is an ankle I hurt years ago. The swelling goes down when I elevate it at night. It does not hurt nor is it red.

Brief Answer:
Not worrisome.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The mild swelling of the foot and ankle is likely to be a dependent edema due to standing on your feet for long hours. Since there is no redness or pain and the swelling reduces on elevating the foot there is no need to worry. Reducing the salt intake and avoiding standing for long hours will help in reducing the swelling.
I hope this answers your query.
