What Causes Swelling In Lymph Node Area Around Groin?

default
Posted on Wed, 1 Jul 2015
Question: I am a 68 year old male, had testicular cancer forty years ago. They removed a testicle and I had three months of radiation treatments. Then they operated and removed the lymph nodes from my spine, all negative. About five years later, the lymph gland at the top of my left leg began to swell and they just removed it. negative again. Now that same lymph area, right at the fold of my leg has a swollen oblong area, soft, and a hard area above it, like a small egg. I have been having lower backaches lately. I should mention my father and his brother both had prostate cancer. I have had ultrasound and blood tests, the blood tests were all in the normal range. I am a type 2 diabetic. What should I be worried about? Is this lymphoma?

Brief Answer:
It will require lymph node biopsy to rule out lymphoma.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,
I have read your query and understand the concern,

Here, considering your history of testis removal due to testicular cancer, you should go for lymph node biopsy to rule out the possibility of lymphoma for which you are much bothered.

The operating surgeon will take tissue from the swollen lymph nodes and will send for histopalthological examination.

The report might come within 48 hours, based on which the further treatment will be decided. If it comes negative there is no need to worry.

Till that time, there is no urgency and be rested, as you had also negative lymph nodes over groin and spine earlier as mentioned by you in the question.

The causes of swollen lymph nodes could be injury or infection or radiating testicular cancer.

If you feel pain and tenderness in swollen lymph nodes then you should see surgeon who will examine you and prescribe the appropriate treatment according to consideration of your tests reports.

As your blood tests came normal (which might rule out possibility of infection) but I want to ask about the ultrasound report which you did earlier.

You can take analgesic gel or tablet available over the counter for your backache and continue your treatment for diabetes and hypertension.

Hope this information will help you and get back to me with the blood and ultrasound report.
