What Causes Swelling In The Groin Area?

default
Posted on Thu, 27 Jul 2017
Question: I have swelling on one side in my groin. Not in my testicles. It only seems to happen when I am physically active. There is no pain. In the mornings there is no swelling, one side feels the same as the other. When it does swell it's about the size of a small apricot. Sitting with ice on it for 20 minutes makes it 'go away'. I've noticed this for a couple of months, though it seems to be happening more frequently. Some days it doesn't happen at all. The swelling is hard, but again not painful.

Brief Answer:
Most probably a hernia

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
Such a swelling in groin that reduces and increases as explained by you, for couple of months is indicative of hernia unless proved otherwise.
This is called expansible and reducible swelling.
There may be an impulse on coughing.
This can be confirmed by clinical examination and assisted by ultrasonography if required.
Obvious treatment will be surgical correction if this gets confirmed as Hernia.

I hope this answers your query, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
