What Causes Swelling In The Testicle After Hydrocele Surgery?

fix the right side of my scrotum/testicle. The operation went well to include no pain following the operation. However, my right testicle is still swelled to about the size of a
Tennis ball. I have and continue to apply an ice pack 3-4 times per day. [How long should
my right testes remain enlarged?] I have no fever, etc. Also, how limited should my activities be and for how long? I will be very grateful for a response. Thank You. XXXXXXX
Dear Dr. Husain, I don't think it could be blood (hematoma) as you described because the swelling is really firm which I believe is unlike what a sac full of blood
might feel. I will appreciate your consideration of further thought and a response.
Thank You Sir: XXXXXXX XXXX
It could be a hematoma.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting Healthcaremagic.
I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.
As per your description it seems that you have developed a hematoma after the surgery. It is nothing but a collection of blood in your scrotal sac and it is commonly seen after hernial/hydrocele surgery. Other possibility is the recurrence of hydrocele. In some people hydrocele reappears after surgery due to fluid accumulation or improper correction of the defecct.
Consult a general surgeon and get evaluated. Get an ultrasound scan done. If it is an hematoma it can be drained(removed) by passing a needle through the skin. The swelling subsides in few days after draining the collected fluid. If the diagnosis is made as hydrocele, revision surgery may be needed.
Wishing you good health.
Regards
Dr Shinas Hussain
