What Causes Swelling Of Calf Muscles While Jogging?
So this has been bothering me for some time, i first noticed symtoms about year ago. Every time i get on the treadmill and run at about 4.8 mph i would develop some caldication in my right medial/anterior calf muscle it is not painful and im able to keep jogging, but it turns visibly red , kinda itchy, and somryimes achey. Its in the gastroc mm area and only right calf. Do you think this is arterial or venous insufficiency? Or pvd? The swelling subsides after 5-10 minutes of walking. To add this only happens on the treadmill, not when im playing vollyball or walking outdoors. Thankyou doctors.
Just wanted to make a correction, the ischemia is not in the gastroc area but 3-4 inches proximal to the medial maleoulus and covers an area of about 5 centimeters length and 2-3 centimetrs width with redness and warmth.
The problem is neurogenic and not PVD. Not by a long shot.
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,
I am Dr. Neel Kudchadkar and I will help you.
1. I strongly feel that the reason that you experience these symptoms is NOT vascular in origin. I feel that these problems are due to neurogenic issues in your lumbar spine.
2. Please relinquish your worries about PVD. If it were so, you would experience claudication whilst indulging in other physical activities.
3. You can kindly revert to me, and inform me of any risk factors for a vascular diagnosis such as smoking, and the like. Given the fact that you are an athlete I really do not feel that this would be the case.
4. You are well educated and informed. I would like to hear from you. If you have an queries about this diagnosis, you can kindly approach me.

How to handle claudication issues.
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,
Thanks for your response.
1. You might have smoked cigarettes in the past, and might be using the "e-cig" now, but the fact remains that, in general all people who smoke, do not "all" develop PVD. Every individual is unique, just as your fingerprint, you are a unique person.
2. We cannot expect, therefore, "textbook" or "assembly line" symptoms and disease in general to occur in ALL persons with a certain habit or a lifestyle.
3. Let me make it very simple. Your spine is a "tube" that carries your spinal cord. At the lumbar (back) region, this "tube" has developed a slight narrowing.
4. When you change your posture, the "tube" changes its diameter dynamically from time to time. This explains relief of symptoms and lack && onset of your symptoms.
5. The best way is to use NSAID medications. If neccessary. And many are even OTC's. Over the counter.
6. An even better way is to modify posture whilst performing activities that cause symptoms.
