What Causes Swelling Of The Submandibular Gland When Diagnosed With An Underactive Thyroid?
Question: Hello Doctor. Am 26 year old married female. For the past 2 months, I noticed a swelling under my left jaw bone. My doctor told it is a submandibular gland. Actually am able to feel it on both the sides but my left side is little swollen than the right one. My docs don't seem to worry about it. It is not painful. I have underactive thyroid gland for which am being treated. Am having a hardly noticeable enlarged thyroid gland at the bottom of my neck. I don't know if it is because of enlarged thyroid gland, am able to feel my submandibular glands. I'm really worried if it could be something else. My husband tried feeling it on himself but he couldn't feel it. Please advise !

Thank you Doctor. There is no progress in shape or size. It feels soft but immovable. On both sides, it feels oval or small egg like in shape. It is only felt but not visible outside neck. Anyhow I have attached photos. No ultrasound done yet. What are the tests should I take to rule out something serious?
Brief Answer:
seems sequel of some viral infection ,ultrasound at convenience recommended
Detailed Answer:
Welcome Vidhya .
Thanks for the details and attached photographs .
* Seems possible issue of submandibular gland which may be non specific
or in concern with some viral infection , but not serious for sure .
* Suggested to take an ultrasound examination of the neck to rule out any
underlying problem , need not to get panic at all at present .
* Was there any sign of upper respiratory infection as cough , fever , sorethroat
before noticing this ?
Wishing you fine recovery .
Welcome for any further assistance .
Regards take care .
