What Causes Swollen Abdomen Post Hysterectomy?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: I am 10 days post-op from a total hysterectomy. I still feel swollen in the belly, is this normal?
Brief Answer:
yes its normal.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query,
It is natural and normal to feel swollen in abdomen post hysterectomy and you may feel some pain as well. If its a laparoscopic hysterectomy the pained discomfort is less and one is allowed to do all daily activities by a week, but in cases of abdominal hysterectomy, rest is advised as the abdominal wound itself takes 2 weeks to heal properly and any form of weight lifting is avoided.
The healing of the dissected tissues takes 2-3 weeks in general and hence care has to be taken. If there is no fever and appetite has increased and you are passing stools normally again , then you are recovering well.
