Brief Answer:
ARV vaccination is mandatory.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX! Good evening. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

I would like to inform you that the animal vaccination might not offer you a 100% protection against rabies. Therefore, I would advise you with the following:

1) The pain and the swelling could be due to secondary infection of the wound with bacteria.
2) The wound should be properly cleaned with soap and water/betadine solution.
3) Go for a tetanus vaccine if not vaccinated
4) I would also prescribe a complete vaccination against rabies.
5) In addition, I would also advise you a broad spectrum antibiotic along with a anti inflammatory drug and a proton pump inhibitor to control any super added secondary infection of the wound.
6) Lastly, I would insist you to keep your affected hand elevated with a splint to reduce the intensity of inflammation and swelling.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.

Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. I wish you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.

Brief Answer:
Needs care at the earlieast if pain and swelling increases.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX! Good morning. Regrets for the delay because of the wee hours of night in this part of the subcontinent.

Even though you are traveling, if the swelling and pain increases it has to be shown to a doctor where you are at the earliest for avoiding any complications later. Till then please follow the instructions as explained earlier.

Good luck.

Dr Shareef.
