Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and history albeit small.
The commonest cause of swollen and sore gland on one side near the jaw with discomfort inside the mouth on the same side is most probably due to submandibular salivary gland.
This in turn can be due to a stone in the duct or infection.
The commonest other symptom can be:
The swelling increases on taking food.
X-ray/Ultrasonography helps in diagnosis.
Digital (finger) examination helps in confirmation.
Please give feedback as to the points I have mentioned and mention if this is so or not so that we can find the reason.

Is this something that can just run its course or do you think I should see a doctor about it? The pain isn't that bad, just annoying more than anything.
Brief Answer:
Yes, please see a Doctor.
Detailed Answer:
If it is so, it would be wise to see a Doctor, get a clinical evaluation, investigations and get started with proper treatment.
