What Causes Swollen Eyelid After An Eyebrow Injury?

Question: Hi, a couple of days ago I hit my eyebrow quite hard off the corner of a plastic tray. It stung at the time but then was fine so I thought nothing of it. The following morning I woke up and my eyelid was badly swollen. Throughout the course of the day my eye began to blacken and swell underneath. when I woke the following day, the swelling underneath was really bad. I know it's not uncommon to get a black eye after a facial injury and the swelling on my eyelid has gone down but should underneath be this bad or should I be concerned?
Brief Answer:
Nothing to be concerned.
Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand that you must be worried.
As you said it is common to get a black eye after a hit in that region. It happens due to rupture of a blood vessel and bleeding under the skin. While the accompanying swelling starts to subside earlier the blood can not simply evaporate, it will be slowly degraded and its product absorbed. This is a process which will take a couple of weeks.
In the meanwhile you shouldn't worry, as long as you have no other signs involving eyesight, fever, headache etc, there is no reason to suspect smth serious, especially at your young age with no accompanying conditions.
I hope to have been of help.
