Could be a vein, heart or kidney problem
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
bilateral feet and ankles swelling is usually caused by vein insufficiency (particularly in the hot days). Avoiding standing will cause reduced swelling. Walking may be more helpful. Rising the legs helps even more.
Other things to consider include:
- heart disease: peripheral edema is a common feature of this condition. Diuretic use is recommended in cases like this. An ultrasound scan of the heart (echo) would be diagnostic.
- kidney disease: inability of the kidney to manage fluids or loss of albumin in the urine may cause swelling in the legs or elsewhere. A urinalysis and blood tests for urea, creatinine, total protein and albumin can be helpful.
I hope I've helped!

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the input!
Varicose veins is a sign of venous insufficiency. This means that your veins cannot push the blood towards the heart as effectively as they should. The result is that the feet and the ankles may swell when standing for a long time (or faster) and they loose the excess fluid when you lie down.
Kind Regards!
