What Causes Swollen Feet Post A Hallux Limitus Surgery?

default
Posted on Wed, 6 Sep 2023
Question: My close friend has had a swollen foot ever since she had surgery for hallux limitus in about 2000. Very recently that same looking situation has moved up to below her knee. It is not painful and when you press it a dent will remain for a moment. What advice might you have?

Upload an image for review!

Hi,

I have a few more requests to make before providing helpful tips about this.

1. Are both legs affected?
2. Kindly upload an image for review. This way, the response would take into consideration the specific degree to swelling noted.

Brief Answer:

Probably lymphedema!

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

This is probably caused by failure of the fluid from this end to be returned to the heart easily. It could be caused by failed veins or blocked lymphatic vessels.

Helpful tips:

1. Raise legs when seated
2. Ask the doctor about compressive stockings
3. Exercise as often as possible: At least 150mins/week
4. REduce salt consumption.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
