What Causes Swollen Foot?
Some other points:-
1: ESR and Thyroid are also high for Mom (See report "Mom All Reports - 13 Oct 2014") so is this also related to ESR or Thyroid
2: If yes then Can this be treated through any Medication?
Doctor please try to answer my all above questions
Thanks

The swelling leg can be due to the medications, high cholesterol
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX XXXXXX,
I have gone through your reports are understand your health concerns
Few things from the report
1. Your mom's cholesterol and LDL (bad cholesterol) are very high (Normal LDL should be less than 130 or preferably less than 100mg/dl). She has to be started on medications after consulting your doctor.
2. Her haemoglobin is low and TIBC, ESR is high. This suggest iron deficiency anaemia. She has to be started on iron supplementation after consulting your doctor.
3. Her calcium and phosphorus is on the lower side. Probably she is having vitamin D deficiency. Kindly do a serum vitamin D levels and start her on vitamin D replacement after consulting your doctor.
4. Her Kidney function is normal even though urea is elevated creatinine is normal (High urea/creatinine). This is usually seen when you take less fluids. Ask her to increase fluid intake and repeat a kidney function test.
5. Thyroid function is normal. T3 is low but T4, TSH is normal. T3 may be low due to lab error. Please repeat a Free T3, Free T4 and TSH. Are you already started on medications?
Regarding the causes of swelling in foot
1. Major cause of this swelling is due to the medication you are on. Metpure AM 5 contains Amlodipine 5 mg (anti BP drug) which is commonly associated with swelling of feet. If I were your treating physician I would have changed that to some other anti BP medications
2. Increased Cholesterol
3. Anaemia (iron deficiency)
4. Vitamin D deficiency
5. Local causes - infections in feet, varicose veins
6. Without any cause
I suggest the following treatment after consulting your doctor
1. Change Metpure AM 5 to another anti hypertensives
2. Start on Vitamin D and iron supplementation
3. Start on cholesterol medications (statins)
4. Regular exercise and weight reduction
Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
