What Causes Swollen Hand After Injury And IV Removal?

Question: This past Saturday, post-removal of an IV (inserted in a local ER for cardioversion) on the back of my left hand, specifically about 6 hours later, (after some exercise--curls with dumbbells, holding wrists straight), after flexing my hand to stand up (palm flat on bench), I felt pain, as if I'd badly banged the hand. It quickly became quite painful and tender to the touch along its left outer edge from my wrist down to the upper little-finger joint, so I put a cold pack on it for 20-25 minutes. There was no redness or warmth around the former IV site. Sunday morning, the pain was 100% gone and the tenderness about 97% gone, but my hand had swollen, so that my watch band is tight, all upper knuckles hard to see, and skin stretched. My fingers don't appear as swollen as the back of my hand does. There's been no redness or warmth, but the swelling has not gone down. If anything, it may have moved slightly upward, a little past my wrist now. I'm thinking I should maybe have it looked at by a physician, but would appreciate any advice you might have. Thank you.
