Brief Answer:
Allergic reaction to medications:

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

If his lips or tongue swelled, that is a pretty severe allergic reaction. He should not take any further Bactrim. If he is still having mouth swelling or any difficulty breathing, he should be seen in an urgent care or ER tonight.

Treatment for severe allergic reactions are
An antihistamine such as Benadryl or Zyrtec
Also an H2 blocker antacid (as it is a different type of antihistamine) such as Zantac (Ranitidine) is useful (in addition to the regular antihistamine).

And if the reaction is continuing significantly, he might also need a short course of a corticosteroid such as prednisone to shut the reaction down.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information or clarification.
