What Causes Swollen Lymph Nodes Just Under My Jaw?

Posted on Sat, 3 May 2014
Question: I think I have swollen lymph nodes just under my jaw. I can't tell if they are swollen or not.but I have a sensation that my neck is larger than in the past. This started about a week ago. They don't seem to be painful or tender, just a feeling that my neck has gotten bigger. I have been consuming high fat and caloric drinks over the past two weeks, too. I have been diagnosed with OCD and with general anxiety disorder in the past focusing on health problems. I manifest symptoms of diseases. then they go away after I have been assured I'm ok, usually through extensive medical tests. It's been going on for twenty years and it is really a 'drag,."

Brief Answer: a clinical examination is needed Detailed Answer: Hi, Thanks for writing to HCM. If you are not sure that there are swollen lymph nodes under your jaw, and think that its not a node but your entire neck is swollen, then the only thing that can be done is, you have to go an see a local doctor for a physical examination of your neck to see if there really any swelling there, or its just fat deposition following your high calorie diet. Without seeing you, I can't tell that difference. You may describe the lymph nodes - the size, consistency, tenderness, etc. It needs clinical examination to be sure. But, going as per your history of OCD and general anxiety disorder, if you are not able to feel any lump or node in your neck, then be assured that there is nothing there. Also, you don't have any symptoms for the same. So, you need to reduce your calories to get rid of fat deposition on neck (if it is fat). Hope, I have been helpful. Regards Dr. Ashish Verma
