What Causes Swollen Scrotum?
Question: my husband is 82 years old, he is incontenent but i recentely noticed his scrotum is very enlarged, he says it is not painful. He has been hiding this so I don't know how long it has been this way. He had a hip replacement in August of 2013 so I don't think he had the problem then. What could cause this.
Brief Answer:
Probably a hydrocele
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to HCM,
Appreciate your concern for your husband.
If he is pain free, the swelling does not change in size with slight pressure and seem to be fluid filled when you feel it, it is likely to be a hydrocele.
It can be confirmed with an ultrasound examination of the scrotum.
This would also help it to be differentiated from other conditions producing swelling in the scrotum.
