What Causes Swollen Vein In The Wrist After Injury?
Question: I just smacked my wrist on a drawer and my wrist vein swelled up and it's like a bean sized purple balloon under my skin now. My arm and hand hurt. Do I need to be concerned and go to urgent care or can I just ice it down.

Brief Answer:
Visit the ER without delay.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I would insist you to visit urgent care. It appears that you have got a bleeding under your skin (purple balloon like swelling). It needs to be assessed and ascertained that the bleeding does not continue. As of now continue to apply the ice.
The doctors at the ER would be able to ensure that things are fine again.

Feels better and it's not getting bigger. Been 2 hours now. Looks like a purple bruise. Is just ice ok? You don't really think I need to go to the ER seems a little extreme?
Brief Answer:
As of now applying ice should suffice
Detailed Answer:
If it is not getting bigger, application of ice should suffice. It would take 5-10 days for the purple color to resolve. If swelling increases, it would be a good idea to visit a doctor.
