What Causes Tail Bone Pain?

default
Posted on Thu, 31 Jul 2014
Question: I have pain in my backside which I can only describe as in my tailbone area. The pain is there standing, sitting or lying down. My GP ordered an MRI, but due to recent surgery I cannot have a MRI at this time. The pain started in May. My colon tumor was discovered in XXXXXXX (Surgery XXXXXXX 26). During XXXXXXX I dealt with the pain as I thought it was related to the tumor in my rectum. However, the tumor is gone and the pain in my tailbone is still there. Any ideas

Brief Answer:
Use ring cushion and take sitz bath.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have studied your case.

Due to microtauma from various routine activities like sitting on hard surface, etc - surface of the sacrum may be injured leading to tail bone pain.

Do hot fomentation over sacrum. It will take weeks to months to subside.

Use ring cushion and take sitz bath [sitting in lukewarm water for 10 min]
Take analgesic like nucoxia [Eterocoxib] 90 once daily along with tab methylcobalamine 1500 mcg once daily consulting your doctor.
If not relieved with all these methods then local injection may be required. You can take this consulting your doctor.
Clinically spinal origin of pain needs to be ruled out, if required MRI spine can be done after your surgeon says yes.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care.
