What Causes Talking During Sleep?
My dad is 64 now. I feel this started about10-15 years back. For our education sake, my mom used to stay with us in a different city and my dad at my hometown. He is a strong person but i guess as he was living alone and sleeping alone, he got this habit of talking in his sleep. It was occasional at that point so we didnt bother much. Then later when we ( i got 2 siblings) got married, my parents stayed together but his habit remained same. 3-4 years back, there were some family issues (in regards to my marriage and my brother's too). I believe , that took a toll on him. He started talking everyday in sleep. Sometimes, he would laugh and talk with his colleagues or sometimes he would be frantic telling that dogs were chasing him. And many a times, he fell from the bed. That was when i was alarmed and took him to a doctor. He is very hesitant but did come. The doctor gave some medication but he never took them. I even forced him for a yoga session but he doesnt agree to anything. I guess he feels complexity. He travels a lot....so he always books the lower XXXXXXX He knows his problem but doesnt accept. Off late, i took him to an ayurvedic doctor knowing his apprehensions. The problem is that he admits to the doctor but refrains from medication. He didnt take the sedative oil that was proposed for him. Now, since a week i have seen him crawling!
I am really worried.......please suggest me wat i shud do.
Hi Dear XXXX consult Local Psychiatrst
Detailed Answer:
The condition which your father is having called Somnambulism.
Somnambulism is due to many reason. one of them may be any stress or aloofness.
And it is called sleeping disorder.
For somnambulism best medication is Benzodiazepins.
If your father is not willing to accept he has such problem make a video of his night talking then show him and also make him understand with help of doctor about his problem.
If still not willing to take medication you can give medication with food with out his knowledge preferably asking by your treating doctor.
Nothing to worry about it.
Discuss with your treating doctor and local psychiatrist.
Awaiting Your Response.
Thank you.
