What Causes Tenderness And Swelling Below The Ear?
Question: HI Doctor,
My age is 32. I am Married. I had mumps in 2012. From yesterday night onwards i could feel that my right jaw below my ear is getting tender. Is this mumps again that i am having. I went to a ENT specalist and he checked my tongue and salivary glands and told me that its not mumps and gave me these medicines 1. Dolo 650 Mg 2. ESoz D40 3.podocip 200 4.becon forte. After i came back home i had vomiting (once) and then mild fever. Last night i took medicine and now i am not having fever. But the tendernesss below my ear is still there but very llittle. I had body pains yesterday but after taking the medicine last night (dolo and podocip 200 ) i am relived from the body pains. When i check physically from outside the swelling is very minute and it takes time to identify it properly. But from the inside i can feel the tenderness below my ear. I heard that mumps dont affect second time but i suspect that its mumps again. I dont know wat to do . Can this b any other cause of swelling. can i go for any kind of vaccination at this age against mumps. please do advise thank u

Brief Answer:
you do not have mumps
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Although i have not examined you , but i am sure that you are not having mumps as it is very rare for a person to get mumps the second time.
The swelling below your ear may be an infected and enlarged lymph node which is very common in a viral infection.
Considering your symptoms and body pain, it is likely that you are having a viral infection.
Please continue your medications as your doctor has given the right medications.
Please dont worry!!
Take care!

As I am the next person to her is there any possibility that i have got "Mononucleosis" bcoz of her due to close contact of her or is this any kind of other viral disease. I am non alcoholic and non smoker. Thank u sir
Brief Answer:
you do not have mononucleiosis!
Detailed Answer:
Hello
It is impossible to tell you which virus is causing your symptoms as there are so many viruses affecting the human body.
Mononucleiiosis will have high grade fever , sore throat and multiple enlarged lymph nodes in the neck not just a single one , hence most likely you are not having it!
Please continue your medications, you will be perfectly fine soon!
Thanks
