What Causes The Presence Of Oil Along With Stool?
Question: i have clear whitish oil with my stool. Not yellow and it is not a lot. it is with almost all my stools. Stools usually float and then sink....some just float, others drop directly to bottom of bowel. is this an issue? 1 year ago had ct, ultra sound, full blood work with gastroenterologist including enzymes. All was fine. you can check previous posts with all blood test numbers. Thank you.
Brief Answer:
Increased fat in stool
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.
Oily/floating stool occurs due to either fat malabsorption or increased fat intake.
This results in high fat content in stool causing oily/floating stool.
CT was normal. This rules out pancreatitis.
I would advise you to get a stool test done to estimate stool fat content and also to rule out infection.
I hope that answers your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr.R.K.

Thank you Doctor i will request this test. should i also have lipase, and amylase checked? Since the oil residue is minimal and not yellow or orange, and does not smell bad is this still a concern? Everytime i look up oil in stool it never mentions clear/white oil residue. Does this color or type of oil indicate something different then the typical yellow orange oil in stool? Thank you for your help with this.
Brief Answer:
No need for amylase and lipase.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
No need to do amylase and lipase test as CT scan is showing normal pancreas.
Color does not indicate anything specific.
