What Causes The Sensation Of A Foreign Body In The Throat?

Posted on Thu, 7 Mar 2019
Question: This question is for an Ears Nose and Throat specialist regarding fibro optic laryngoscope. I think that is the name of it. Yesterday I went to an ENT and he sprayed a local anaesthetic in my nose then inserted a tube through one nostril and down my Throat. I have had this before but normally ok. This time I literally feel like a part of the tube is still in my lower Throat. It is very uncomfortable. Everyone tells me I'm just imagining it or that it is just my Throat scratched but I feel like a part came off and is in my Throat. I also have had a really bad breath and wonder if there is a part stuck and if I have an infection internally. Otherwise please advise. I am panicking.

Brief Answer:
Foreign body sensation in the throat.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

The feeling of something stuck in the throat is due to some injury or scratching caused while introducing or removal of the fiber optic scope.

It is impossible for any part of the scope to be left behind as they are designed accordingly so that no part can detach.

I think you should ignore it and just relax.

Secondly, as you are having bad breath, you might be having some gastric acid reflux which can cause the sensation of something stuck in the throat. For this, you should take some antacid and avoid spicy food and aerated drinks.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care.
