What Causes Throat Constriction, Low Appetite And Hot Flashes?

default
Posted on Sat, 10 Sep 2016
Question: Two days ago, I had a definite XXXXXXX "attack," immediately followed by cold and hot flashes which have not stopped since. Sleeping has been next to impossible because my brain races, jumping through 100 thoughts a minute, throughout the night. My throat has also seemed to constrict, and eating has been difficult, although I've had almost no appetite. I've never had anything like this before...all this is definitely abnormal. I'm a 52 year old previously healthy male. How concerned do I need to be? It would take me days to get a doctor's appointment.

Brief Answer:
It seems like upper respiratory tract infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to Health Care Magic! Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in best way possible.

First of all, it is sad to know what you had gone through.

Based on the history you have shared, it seems that you are suffering from an episode of upper respiratory tract infection, which may be involving throat or tonsils making swallowing or eating difficult or painful and it may be extending or involving sinuses causing Para-nasal sinusitis. It may present like throbbing in the head and may also cause disturbed sleep and appetite.

Don't worry, as these usually resolve within days and are self limiting or usually reversed with some suitable therapies including anti histamines like Cetirizine 10 mg once daily at bedtime or Loratidine 10 mg Once Daily and decongestants. Using anti inflammatory drugs like Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can be continued with steam inhalations and saline water gargles three times daily for next 2-3 days.

If despite this, signs of infection like fever sets in or symptoms persist then antibiotics like Co-Amoxyclav (Augmentin) or Azithromycin may also be needed after a thorough clinical check-up by your physician .

Wishing you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
Regards.
