Brief Answer:
Chronic Laryngitis, Reflux

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. A videolaryngoscopy (VL'scopy) should be done. If it has already been done, upload the images here.

2. You seem to have a chronic laryngitis and there will be signs of the cause visible during the VL'scopy.

3. Some of the possible causes are:
a. Acid reflux (severe throat, chest and back pain not relieved by antibiotics),
b. allergy and food intolerance (itchy throat),
c. sinusitis/post'nasal drip, dehydration/ salivary problems, stress/ nutritional deficiencies and sleep apnea (dry, painful throat).
d. Problems with the singing technique (neck and chest strain).

4. Treatment should start after blood investigations, chest & sinus X-ray and a VL'Scopy. Anti reflux medication, anti-allergy medication including a short course if steroids, medicated oral rinse and speech therapy.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any follow up queries, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

ok. With Acid reflux, I guess I should be having heart burn and swallowing pain. But I'm not. Plus, I had a RVS Test done and it was negative.

What are the treatment options for both do these diagnosis and then what if the cause is voice overuse, that's what I suspect.
ALSO, the symptoms didn't just come at once. It was gradual. A month of throat pain, then others followed suit every week.

Brief Answer:
LPR.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. In a type of reflux now known as LHR (LaryngoPharyngeal Reflux), symptoms such as heartburn are absent.

2. Even some normal people have a few episodes of reflux. Besides acid, digestive enzymes and bile may also be present.

3. Symptoms of chronic laryngitis always develop slowly over time. They also require 8-12 weeks of sustained treatment to subside.

4. Your VL'Scopy is the first step in thus direction. Further investigations and treatment will depend on the results of this.

If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
