What Causes Throat Pain And Watery Eyes After Having Hot Sauce?

Last Monday my husband ate a jerk chicken sandwich with VERY hot sauce on it. It made his eyes water. The next day his throat started hurting. It has now been 7 days and he's been in agony. His doctor gave him liquid hydrocodone and lidocaine to gargle. It still hurts him. I've been mashing his food, but every swallow hurts. The lidocaine helps for a few hours. How long do you think this burning will last?
Thanks**
ppi inhibitors.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that your husband is having burning sensation in throat.
Mucosal injury is quite common with hot food stuffs.
I suggest you to take Carafate oral syrup (Sucralfate) with ppi inhibitors (pantoprazole) daily one tab before food for healing of ulcers of burns. these are prescribed medications, needs medical prescription from a local doctor.
In case of persistence, needs laryngoscopy from an ent surgeon to rue out other causes.
You can stop lidocaine, as it will not work in deeper part of throat.
Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
Wishing you good health.

10-15 days.
Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.
Normally, ulcers of burns heal on its own or sometimes you may require antibiotics and mucosal protectors (sucralfate).
Depending on the size of ulcer, immunity and coexistent nutritional deficiencies, it takes 10-15 days for complete healing.
Hope, I have answered your query.
All the best.Take care.
