Brief Answer:
neuropathic pain?

Detailed Answer:
hi welcome to health care magic.
The area of pain locating in the anterior thigh suggest femoral nerve involvement.
To me it seems like femoral neuralgia due to lumbar plexopathy.
It can happen spontaneously in athletes like you or it may be a consequence of neurological involvement in rheumatoid arthritis
I believe that you will respond to neurological drugs like gabapentin or pregabalin.
As they are not available over the counter i would recommend a neurologist consultation for the prescription.
All the best
