What Causes Tightness Across The Throat In A 43 Year Old Person?

default
Posted on Tue, 21 Jun 2016
Question: have a feeling of tightness across my throat... not IN my throat, but across it, on the outside, almost as if I have a shirt with a tight collar on pulled high on my neck. This is not painful in any way. it doesn't stop me from eating, drinking, etc. but distracting, and becoming increasingly so. I believe it's becoming more pronounced gradually, but I may just be becoming more aware of it.
It began 10 days ago.
I am otherwise healthy. I am vegetarian, eat plenty of plant-based protein. Not overweight at all although I am a bit heavier than previous years, by perhaps 5 lbs. but I attribute that to age and a bit less active life style. I will be 43 in a month. Very high stress job, but this did not come during a time of unusual stress or wax/ wane.

Brief Answer:
might be related to thyroid

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome
I have gone through your query.

It is difficult to comment without examination. I would have done thorough examination of your neck. I would have checked for any swelling of the gland and the other structures in and around the neck.

If I would have got something I would have asked for initially ultrasound and then if required fine needle aspiration cytology.

I would ask you stand in front of the mirror and check for any swelling or you can ask some one else to check for any changes. But it would be better if you can visit local doctor and get it examined.

One of the common cause of swelling in the neck is related to thyroid. So I would ask you to go for thyroid function test. It is done in most of the labs, you can enquire about it with near by lab.

This provisional advice provided by me is based entirely on the input provided to me. I would suggest examination by the doctor.

I hope this suggestion might be of some help to you. Please accept my answer in case you do not have further queries.

Take care.
