What Causes Tightness In Chest In An Asthma Patient?
Question: Three times in the past couple of weeks I have had these symptoms. It starts out with "just a slightly strange feeling". I sit quietly just to be totally aware of what is going on. My heartbeat does not seem to change. I have an ever-so-slight tightness in my chest, but no difficulty breathing. A very warm feeling then rises from my neck to the top of my head, but when looking in the mirror I do not look flushed. After 30 seconds or so the warm feeling then subsides in the reverse order in which it XXXXXXX The one reason that I am concerned is that it has happened multiple times (3) in short order.
I am an 80 years old female. I maintain a pretty active lifestyle. In addition to Asthma, which I have had for life, I have 3 other auto-immune conditions (none of which will kill me my doctors say). The are Hashimotos (my thyroid has been removed) and I have been on synthyroid for 50 yrs; Polycythemia Vera diagnosed in 2011, and the hated Transverse Myelitis since 2006 L2-L5, so I can walk, but in constant pain. My blood pressure is normal: 100/60 to 120/65 or close to. In addition to Snythyroid I take Evista, Neurotin, & Elivil plus several vitamins. Hope you can give me a clue about what's going on?

The first thing that flashes in my mind as a possibility is that you could be having gastro esophageal reflux disease. Occasionally the gastric acid refluxes into the lower part of the esophagus and may cause the symptoms. The next thing that seems likely is sudden but transient change in blood pressure. Whether neurological causes are involved also need to be assessed.
In my opinion, the first probability seems more likely. But in any case, rather than jumping to conclusions without examining or investigating you would not be proper. I would suggest that you book an appointment with your doctor and get yourself checked.
Treatment will depend upon the underlying cause.
