What Causes Tingling And Numbness In Foot?

default
Posted on Mon, 7 Jul 2014
Question: When I sit and allow my back to relax, my right foot tingles and goes partially numb. I have to maintain an extreme lordotic posture to prevent this, which is very tiring. Sometimes if I rotate my spine I will have a muscle spasm around the T12 area on the right. No pain in the lumbar area. I am a 63 year old female and I weigh about 215. My only exercise is walking. What kind of specialist should I see? Is there help without surgery?

Brief Answer:
Orthopaedic, rheumatologist, Physio

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking!
From your provided history it seems like a compressive neuropathy of the nerve coming out of vertebral foramina. First of all before seeing any doctor you need to lose weight and i'm sure the trouble will resolve. 215 pounds is too much and needs to be reduced.
After that age of 63 is a geriatric age and i am sure conservative approaches like physiotherapies and massage therapies would suffice, The need for decompression surgeries like laminectomies etc would net be dire.
You need to seek an orthopaedic spine specialist and a rheumatologist and a physiotherapist triad to help you with the trouble.
Iam sure they will come up with the best and minimal invasive plan for this trouble.
Take good care and don't forget to close the discussion please.
May the odds be ever in your favour.
