What Causes Tingling Sensation And Numbness In The Extremities And Memory Loss?

default
Posted on Fri, 13 Jan 2017
Question: Hi,
I have an appointment with a doctor Monday. My left hand is literally falling asleep/going numb in evenings and I am having tingling in my feet and hands. I am having some abdominal discomfort and recently having some memory issues. Weird! Been very healthy for most part so this is all new to me. Not been real honest with all my symptoms with wife. Lol - I don't think that's a rare thing. Antsy thoughts? Thanks for your anticipated reply.

Brief Answer:
I think you have B1 deficiency.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, welcome to HCM, love the way you have framed your question. Not being fully honest about your symptoms with your wife, shows your concern for her.
I think you have B1 deficiency. It could explain your symptoms of tingling, numbness and slight memory loss.
Could be B12 also, but more likely the former.
I am sure your doctor on Monday will solve this.
A rarer possibility is slight compression in cervical (neck) spine, but it will not explain the memory part.
Abdominal discomfort is probably independent and due to gastritis or acidity. Although, If it has been long standing, it could also lead to mal- absorption and vitamin deficiency.
Now having analysed things, I would advise you to take an Omeprazole with simethicone once a day for three days. Alternately, take a liquid antacid with simethicone.
The tingling part will be handled and treated by your doctor after proper examination.
You can revert back. Retain your sense of humor and hoping to see you well soon. Regards

Thanks Doctor XXXXXXX So funny - did have a vitamin B deficiency many years ago so I guess that's a possibility for sure. I'd be lieing if I told you I have been monitoring. Guess we will see on Monday with perhaps a blood test? Have s great weekend and thanks for your reply and counsel.
XXXXXXX

Ps not giving my wife of 30 years is in part out of concern for her. But amongst us guys - I just don't want to get nagged on why I don't go to the Doctor more often. :). The great thing - you can't tell her that due to physician/ patient confidentiality. Happy holidays Doc!
