default
Posted on Thu, 16 Jun 2016
Question: I have pain in my legs and feet. Sometimes it's like a sharp burning tingling pain. Sometimes it a a shooting pain. It hurts a lot more when I lay down then when I stand. Most times I don't feel the pain when I stand just more of an annoying feeling. My bed isn't the best the box spring is broke so when I lay down it feels like I am laying against a bar. And that bar is usually where my hip is on the bed.

Hi XXXXX,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

If you would have presented to me as an outpatient,I would have asked you the following details in order to answer this well further-
1)When did the pain start?
2)Did it start symmetrically in both legs(or asymmetrically-like first in left;then in right or vice versa)?
3)Has it remained as such or worsened over the years?
4)Does the pain increase on walking and improves on resting for a few minutes?
5)Do you have same pain in lower back or hip also?
6)Please clearly mention the effect of standing, bending forward and lying down supine,on the severity of pain?
7)Do you have any known medical disease-like Diabetes,or any other disease?

I shall be glad to have you in follow-up so that I can answer this well further.

Regards
Dr.Ajay Panwar,

4) The pain actually decreases when standing and walking.
5) Yes to both the lower back and hip but not ad pronounced as the legs and feet.

Brief Answer:
Needs a neurological examination.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,
Thanks for being in follow-up and providing further details.

On the basis of this clinical history, the cause of the pain can't be established.Though, the possibilities can be neuropathy or lumbo-sacral radiculopathy. However, there are some points against both and the clinical history is not specific for any diagnosis.

In this scenario, best thing according to me would be to visit a neurologist in person and get yourself physically examined.Diagnosis sometimes can't be settled on the basis of history and physical examination becomes mandatory.

Hope that helps. If you have some further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up else please close the thread, rate it and write a review.

Regards
Dr.Ajay Panwar,
