What Causes Tinnitus Along With Dizziness And Vision Problem?

default
Posted on Wed, 11 Feb 2015
Question: I am 64. Before Christmas, had symptoms of vertigo; ringing in ears, balance off a little and vision issues like eye strain ( eye exam in October and new glasses). New Years Eve, had an attack...very sick, balance off etc. They had me have a cat scan. Catscan raised question of whether my cerebellum may have dropped a little potentially posing an issue. I am scheduled for a MRI March 3rd. However, I have a vacation booked (and paid for) for the 1st week of February, involving plane flight. My partner does not want me to go if flight could affect things. My thought was that if it was considered a serious problem, they would have booked my MRI earlier. Any comments?

Brief Answer:
Flight is safe for you.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms and CT scan report findings. Based on that, it seems they are suspecting a condition called as Chiari malformation.

It is absolutely safe for you to fly and go on a vacation in February.

As you suspected, it is not a serious problem, and MRI can be done as planned in March.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,

Thank you Dr. XXXXXXX Your assessment was much appreciated. Do you think that a possible Chiari malformation might explain vision issues (it is like eye strain) or occasional brief tingling on one side of my face?

Brief Answer:
These are probably unrelated.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

The symptoms such as vision issues and tingling on one side of face are most probably unrelated to the Chiari malformation.

Best wishes,
