What Causes Tiredness?
Question: So I hit puberty at 10 by 12 I was 5-7 full facial hair and since thirteen nothing has changed. I am now 21 and have trouble getting out of bed and am very depressed and stressed. I was wondering if I should get tested for low testosterone this early in my life?
Brief Answer:
Few questions
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Good day.
Seems like your puberty accelerated fast and then became stable. What is your height now? There are many reasons for getting depressed and stressed including few hormonal conditions.
Regarding Testosterone deficiency, i would like to ask few questions.
1) How is your facial and chest hair growth. What is your shaving frequency?
2) How is your libido ( sexual thoughts) and do you have difficulty getting or maintaining an erection?
3) Any weight gain/loss ?
If you have poor erection and has decreased libido along with your depression, it may be worthwhile checking, Fasting blood glucose, Free T4, TSH, Prolactin and fasting Testosterone ( between 8-9 am).
Regards
Binu

Hi

Hi,
You have gained considerable weight in last 2 years. This itself can cause tiredness. However, i do agree that people who have low testsoterone tend to gain weight, especially around hips and abdomen.
If you can get a normal erection, but difficulty maintaing, it may be worthwhile screening for Testosterone deficicency. However, the most common cause of this is anxiety/depression/smoking/alcoholism rather than true testosterone deficicnecy. I see only 1 in 20 patients screened for such symptoms actually have true testosterne deficiency.
You will need a FBS, FAsting Testosterone ( total), Prolactin, Free T4 and TSH.
Good luck
