What Causes Tonsil Stones Lodged In Throat After Severe Sinus Infection?

default
Posted on Tue, 21 Jul 2015
Question: I have been having severe pain discomfort etc after a horrible sinus infection a few months ago. I noticed that following my sinus infection i started experiencing severe itchy and wet ears so went to ENT several times and they treated me w antibiotics steroids etc. today i noticed that inside my mouth my left tonsil was completely swollen and when i touched it several hard white tonsil stones came out. I have also developed TMJ while trying to get relief from my ears. Tomorrow i am seeing a dentist for the tmj. Howveer im starting to think i have tonsil stones lodged in both sides that developed after severe sinus infection. Please advise thank you. I have been using mouth wash tonight w alcohol and peroxide in it - hoping that if there is tonsil infection it may help relieve some pain. It feels like my ears are infected but from inside my mouth :(

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to healthcaremagic,

Tonsil stones are common, but I feel that what you have seen are not tonsil stones. It is dessicated discharge from the tonsil. The discharge from the tonsil dries over time in the crypts of the gland and when pressed appears to the surface as white dots.

If you have been having pain in the tonsils for more than a week, then you need to take a course of antibiotics to control the infection. Also please do warm salt water gargling 4 times a day. You can also take a pain killer like Tylenol after checking your dose.

At this point of time, I will suggest you start warm saline garline as instructed above. Drink plenty of warm fluids. You can discuss about antibiotics when you see the dentist tomorrow. If your dentist isn't convinced about the need for antibiotics, you might need to see the ENT surgeon again.

Brief Answer:
not from tube

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
The white cheesy material did not come from the tubes.

The tubes are located deep inside at the back of the nose. The white material definitely came from the tonsils,
