What Causes Twitching In Right Index Finger In A Type 2 Diabetic Patient?

Question: Hi, I am a 59 years old female, I just noticed my right index finger twitching to the left it started couple hours ago and still going. I have type 2 diabete. I am really concerned. Thank you.

Hi,

Noted your concern.

Twitching in finger may be due to muscular activity.
It is usually seen with low potassium (Hypokalemia), low magnessium (hypomagnessemia) or low calcium (Hypocalcemia).
Usually in uncontrolled diabetes there is diuresis (increased frequency and quantity of urine) which causes loss of essential electrolytes.

Your symptoms may be worrisome and require further evaluation if there is numbness of hand or imbalance while walking which requires immediate neurological examination.

Only muscular twitching may not require further evaluation.

You can try electrolyte preparation or can take half banana (if blood sugar are controlled) or orange or sweet lemon.
