What Causes Ulcer Like Sores In My Mouth Immediately After Food?

default
Posted on Fri, 20 Feb 2015
Question: I've been getting ulcer like sores in my mouth sometimes immediately after eating. I haven't pinned down a particular kind of food that does it. Not on any medications and have no allergies. Sometimes my mouth itches and hurts at the same time during these ulcer episodes. What could it be and is there anything I could do to make it stop or should I be concerned and see a doctor. It's been about 2 weeks.

Brief Answer:
Apthous ulcers

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for consulting HCM.

Stress or tissue injury is thought to be the cause of simple mouth ulcers.

Certain foods, including citrus or acidic fruits and vegetables (such as lemons, oranges, pineapples, apples, tomatoes and strawberries), can trigger a mouth ulcer.

Sometimes a sharp tooth surface or dental appliance, such as braces or ill-fitting dentures might also trigger mouth ulcers.

mouth ulcers are also caused by underlying health conditions such as
an impaired immune system,
nutritional problems, such as vitamin B-12, zinc, folic acid, or iron deficiency, gastrointestinal tract disease.

as you are not under any medication so drug induced mouth ulcer can't be the reason in your case.

sometimes smoking is also a cause of frequent mouth ulcers.

i would advice you to live a stress free life.do meditation or yoga to calm yourself.
Avoid foods that irritate your mouth, including acidic or spicy foods.
Brushing with a soft-bristled brush after meals and flossing daily, which will keep your mouth free of foods that might trigger a sore.

for pain use a topical anesthetic gel like Dentogel.
corticosteroid ointment like Kenacort helps reduce the ulcers.
Rinse your mouth with an antiseptic mouthwash.

if the ulcers persists for more than 3 weeks or if it reoccurs frequently then you should visit a doctor to know the underlying cause.

Hope this answers your query.Take care.
