Question: I have been having right upper abdomen pain for the last week - off and on. I've woke up in the middle of the night, three times in the last 2 weeks with bad pain in this area. twice when I woke up, I vomited and felt some better a couple of hours later. Last night I woke in the night with bad pain and vomited. I still have the pain - no more and no less now - 8 hours later. I don't know whether or not I should go to emergency or wait to see my doctor tomorrow. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
It seems to be Gallstones.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!
I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

The way you describe, it seems to be Gallstones.

Gallstones may cause no signs or symptoms but if a gallstone lodges in a duct and causes a blockage, it may cause a sudden and rapidly intensifying pain in the upper right portion of your abdomen.

You need a complete evaluation.A detailed medical history and physical examination are necessary.
You should run a abdominal ultrasound and a CT scan to look for signs of gallstones.

I suggest to consult your doctor as early as possible. If you can stand the pain then you can wait till tomorrow for the appointment with your doctor.

You should seek immediate care (ER) if you have symptoms of a serious gallstone complication, such as:
-Intense abdominal pain (you can't find a comfortable position or sit).
-High fever.
-Yellowing of your skin and the whites of your eyes

Hope my answer has helped.
Let me know if you have any further question or doubt to clarify.I will be happy to help.

Wish you a complete and quick recovery.
