Dear Mr.XXXX
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for using our service and I understand your concern.Barrett's esophagus is a condition where the walls of the esophagus has changes secondary to chronic gastroesophageal reflux . This produces nausea and burning in the area. The importance of it is that patients with this condition are more prone to develop esophageal cancer. The reason for the prescription of Omeprazole is to control de acid from the stomach to esophagus and decrease the possibility of more irritation of the esophageal walls and the risk of cancer. It is important to avoid spicy food, coffee, alcohol and anything that might irritate the stomach. You will need the medication the rest of your life and chronic follow up with endoscopy to reevaluate the esophagus.
I hope that my advise has been helpful. If you have any other question, feel free to ask me directly .
