Question: When I drink anything with caffeine in it, I have urination problems. If I'm outside I'll have an urge to pee and it will be right now. Sometimes it will start coming out of my penis and I can't stop it.
I have stopped drinking everything with caffeine and it has stopped. Can caffeine really be the cause of my problem? I would love to have a cup of coffee or Tea but am afraid to. My wife says I'm crazy.
I don't have any other medical problems as I get a thorough check up every year. Can you help me?

Hi there...
Thanks for writing in .
What you are experiencing might be urgency, and urge incontinence, which are symptoms of an overactive bladder.
Caffeine is thought of as a diuretic and can cause increased frequency of urination, and urine volume.
If you have urinary incontinence, you may experience a greater "urgency" to urinate after consuming a caffeinated beverage.
However, I would like you to visit a urologist and rule out BPH (benign prostatic hypertrophy), which in your age group is more common.
One of the symptoms of BPH is urgency, and urge incontinence.
Your urologist might prescribe you medications, after finding the cause of overactive bladder.
Hope this information was helpful to you.
Hope you get to drink your cup of coffee or tea soon.
Take care...
Regards,
Dr. Divya Kuttikrishnan.
