What Causes Urinary Retention?

default
Posted on Fri, 10 Jun 2016
Question: I am unable to urinate in the morning. I rarely don't go to the bathroom during the night but am unable to urinate when I have to in the morning. I usually have to go back a few more times until I am able to urinate. I don't have this problem any other time during the day or evening.

Brief Answer:
It is due to spasm of urethral sphincter.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have difficulty in passing urine in the morning after waking up which otherwise is normal during day time .

This is a common problem in old age and is due to spasm of urethral sphincter during winter or cold whether .This spasm gets relieved after some time or due to physical activities and one is able to pass urine .

This does not have any significance and not to be worried at all.

You may practice few stretching exercises immediately after you wake up and drink glass of warm water .This will help to resolve issue .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions , I shall be happy to help you .
Thanks and Regards.

Actually your answer is not correct. I went to the doctor and he tested my urine and I have a UTI. Your answer probably should have been to go to your doctor and have your urine tested.

Brief Answer:
In UTI one has symptoms through out the the day .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up .

We clinicians at health care Magic try to diagnose the problem of user based on what he narrates to us in his query .Our diagnosis may not be correct as we do not examine the patient in person or carry out any tests .

Whenever one has UTI the predominant symptoms of UTI are burning urination ,frequency for urination ,painful urination that last through out the day and not at particular period of the day .

Since you have not mentioned about having these symptoms I did not suspect it to be UTI.

UTI is diagnosed when RBC ,WBC are detected on microscopic examination of urine.

Take antibiotics as suggested by your Physician ,

Thanks and Regards.

Actually I did have the symptoms of a UTI as you describe in Feb and went to my doctor. He told me I had a UIT and prescribed antibiotics. It was approximately in the beginning of April that I had the symptom which I described to you. It appears that the antibiotic that I was prescribed was not appropriate for the type of bacterial infection that I had. When the urine test proved positive again for a UTI he sent the sample to the hospital for analysis to determine which antibiotic would work for my particular bacterial infection. I did have the exact symptoms which I initially told you about but you probably didn't have enough into to give the proper response.

Brief Answer:
Take appropriate antibiotic as per culture reeport.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up .

My response was based on the fact that you have difficulty in passing in urine only in the morning and never during day time which is common in winter and clod whether .This could have been avoided provided you would have narrated all the facts about your past history of UTI in Feb .

Do continue antibiotics as per culture report .

Thanks and Regards.
