What Causes Vaginal Bleeding After A Radical Hysterectomy?
Question: I am a 65 year old female you had her last period at age 48 and had a radical hysterectomy at age 56. Yesterday I had light vaginal bleeding with small clots. The bleeding stopped after about 24 hours taking it easy with feet up but I am at a loss as to where this blood came from when I don't even have a cervix much less a uterus. Any plausible answers? Thank you.

please provide details of previous treatment
Detailed Answer:
Dear member,
Thanks for writing to healthcare magic.
The bleeding may occur from vaginal tissue. Considering the fact that you have undergone radical hysterectomy for cancer/ precancerous condition the vaginal atrophy will be present. Also now that you are 65 and no ovarian function due to surgery the vaginal tissues become thin and may bleed.
There may also be a recurrence of the disease for which you were operated.
A pelvic examination along with transvaginal ultrasound will help in checking the cause.
Please give details of previously surgery and any radiotherapy if received.
Thanks.
