What Causes Vaginal Discomfort And Swelling?

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Jun 2014
Question: Good evening; today i went to a PC dr about vaginal discomfort and swelling. He is treating me for both BV and a yeast infection without testing me. He says my symptoms are caused by my PCOS and make it easy for me to get infections. He gave me a rocefin shot in my hip and diflucan. I am not experiencing swelling in my lover abs. is this something i should be concerned about?

Brief Answer:
Usually diagnosed clinically.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The vaginal discomfort and swelling that you have can be due to bacterial and fungal infection. Other causes can be a rough intercourse or an allergic reaction. Usually BV and Yeast infection can be diagnosed by the type of vaginal discharge that you are having. A yellow or green colored discharge, discharge with bad odor, or if it is clumpy or cheese like with itching, discomfort is associated with such infections. These are easy to treat and a vaginal culture is preferred only in resistant or recurrent cases.
It is also more common in case of PCOD due to the associated hormonal disturbances. There is nothing to worry and you should be alright in 5-7 days with this treatment.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Yes, so I do not have any discharge. Also no rough sex or any for more than three weeks. The PC dr I saw today did not perform a vaginal exam. My concern is over the swelling in my lower abdominal after receiving the Rocefin shot in my hip. Is that common or normal? At point would I need to seek medical attention. Thank you so much for your help. I have three young children and found to the drs unnecessarily in the middle of the night is a really tough decision.

Brief Answer:
Can be due to allergy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The swelling over the lower abdomen that appeared after the injection could be due to an allergic reaction. If the swelling is not warm tender gradually increasing in size or itchy then there is no need to worry. In case the swelling increases then do consult your physician for a direct examination.
Hope my answer is helpful.
Do accept my answer in case there are no further queries.
