What Causes Vasovagal Syncope?
Question: family member had a fainting incident (First one) doctor say vaso vagal fainting - do you know about this ? She just began college and very far away from home and in another country, and she is prone to anxiety issues - is there a connection between all of these factors
She was on a subway, very crowded and very hot and very smelly when it happened the first time
then she said it happened again tonight when she was in a noisy and crowded nightclub and she had one alcohol drink
also what should she do when she feels it coming on
put head between legs
lie down with her head elevated?

Also how important is dehydration in all of this...

Brief Answer:
Following answer to your query.
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.
Vasovagal syncope is the most common cause of fainting and is an abnormal overreaction of vagal nerve to triggering events such as stress, crowded place, seeing blood etc.
Dehydration play a key role in aggravating the symptoms.
The best thing to do on that occasions is to lay down and to stay calm and relaxed. I would like to suggest to avoid crowded places and unnecessary stress.
In order to confirm the diagnosis of Vasovagal syncope I would recommend to do:
- ecg
- cardiac echo
- tilt test
Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!
