What Causes Violent Cough, Running Nose And Watery Eyes?

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Nov 2017
Question: I've had a condition for 6 days. Came on suddenly. Constricted breathing, can't take deep breath without coughing. Much violent coughing, producing clear, thin mucus. Much worse at night, especially when lying down. Watery eyes from coughing, leading to runny nose. I'm generally very healthy, never anything like this before. No family members sick. No pre-existing conditions. It's now 4am and I've been coughing for last 2 hours, breathing still constricted.

Brief Answer:
Possibility of acute bronchitis is more likely.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.

By your history and description, possibility of acute bronchitis (inflammation of airways) is more likely.
Bronchitis causes bronchospasm and this in turn causes chest tightness, constricted breathing, cough, clear expectoration etc.
So you will need inhaled bronchodilator (formoterol or salmeterol) and anti inflammatory drugs like paracetamol or ibuprofen.
Since inhalers are prescribed medications, you need to consult doctor.

Please let me know
1. Have you consulted doctor for this?
2. Are you taking any drugs for this?

Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
