What Causes Vocal Fatigue In An Elderly Person?

Question: I am a 76-y-0 female whose voice gets tired after 40+ minutes of talking on cell phone, with my throat becoming tired of talking and feeling like a tired throat beginning, but it is not a sore throat. On a couple of occasions, I have started to whisper. I feel like I need to gargle, so I do, but doesn't help. I had a small stroke in May 2017 affecting my right arm and hand, but the throat issue started long before that. XXXX

Thank you so much for responding. I have no history of nasal or throat infection and no history of smoking (ever). I wondered if it was the cell phone; I also freeze water in a plastic bottle to carry with me because I have had two to three instances of beginning to cough, then sneezing and wanting to spit up saliva and drink some water emergently (not sure what would happen because each time i have been near the sink and could get a drink). I take a lot of supplements and wondered if I was allergic to the capsule itself, or going to bed after taking it. I have stopped eating ice cream several times over the years due to feeling of it getting caught in my throat, but keep looking for one I can eat; also eating vinegar makes me cough. Thanks again for responding, Doctor and the best to you also. XXXX

Brief Answer:
Vocal fatigue
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for the information.
The vocal fatigue is not because of any of these. it is associated with a vocal cord pathology like a polyp or nodule. You should get a laryngoscopy done.
Cell phone use can cause coughing due to excessive talking on phone but not vocal fatigue.
Take an antacid and steam inhalation. This will help to relieve your cough.
Any further questions are always welcome
Take care
Thanks and regards
